What Students Learn in Art Class
Grades first through eighth are assigned a specific day and time for art class. For the main art curriculum, students follow the California Visual Arts Content Standards and supplement with some self-created projects. In every art class, students create projects using various mediums such as pencils, watercolor paints, colored pencils, crayons, and oil and chalk pastels.
Once a year, the school hosts an art show displaying pieces from students in grades first through eighth. The art show is a wonderful occasion for parents and students to see the amazing artistic talent that exists at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic School.
Hello! Welcome to art class! I am Ms. Zoe, and I am very excited for the opportunity to teach art to your kids. I am have been doing art since I was a little girl and haven’t stopped since. I was born and raised in Palmdale, and I went to Bethel Christian School in Lancaster. I attended Otis College of Art and Design in Los Angeles where I earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts with a major in paintings and a minor in teaching art.
I mainly do oil paintings, focusing on portraits and full-body figures but also combine landscape and abstraction into the backgrounds. When I am not doing an oil painting, I enjoy ceramics, making jewelry and coasters, and sewing!
I am very big on the kids bringing positivity into art class, meaning I don’t want them to call their art bad or say they are bad artists. If something doesn’t turn out how they expect, I want them to pivot and turn it into a happy accident. Most important, I want them to have fun!
